If you are a big fan of tanning like I am, then there is no doubt in my mind that you have tried out a couple of tan accelerators in the past. Or maybe you haven’t but you’re thinking about it. I can highly recommend the usage of tanning accelerators because they really do work. What they do is increase the body’s natural ability to produce melanin. And the more melanin your skin produces, the more dark pigment you’re going to have. And it’s the pigment that’s got the color and it’s the pigment that makes your skin look tanned.
A few years ago, tanning accelerators weren’t exactly all that. It was on more than one occasion that I went out on the weekend and saw various victims of lousy tanning accelerator lotions. They had turned a fake orange and quite frankly, they looked horrible. The problem with tan accelerators is that you don’t get a second chance. Tans have this nasty habit of sticking around for a few weeks or months. Luckily, there are not so many bad tanning accelerators today as there were a few years ago. But caution is still recommended when using these lotions. By using them the wrong way, you can still get lousy results.
If you do not apply a tan accelerator evenly by rubbing it all across your body, you run the risk of getting streaks. This effect is pretty ugly, so make sure to always smear it out evenly. You also do not want to touch a tan accelerator directly with your hands, because it’s going to make your hands look orange. Always make sure to be wearing plastic gloves or something similar. Many tan accelerators these days come with mess preventing applicators so you won’t even need gloves anymore.
With tan accelerators, it is important to start out with the lighter ones. Their effectiveness varies from one product to the next. Beginners should always start out slow. Remember… there are no second chances so you have to get it right the first time!
